The Cable Factory cultural centre is once again filled with fun and diverse programme for all ages during the Night of the Arts!

People working at Cable Factory are offering their best throughout the evening: step in through the open doors, meet artists, come and see various performances and open rehearsals, visit the Dance House Helsinki and the three Cable Museums, participate in workshops and guided tours and explore exhibitions.

You can also enjoy music, read magazines, indulge in the offerings of cafés and restaurants, and simply enjoy the fantastic athmosphere!

You will find an info point in the Cable Factory’s main lobby where you can get information on the evening’s programme. There is another info point for the event in C Lobby. Collect all the stamp spots on the evening's programme brochure by visiting the stamping points around Cable Factory, and you'll receive a face painting as a reward at the info point in the Glass Courtyard!

Dance House Helsinki and Helsinki Festival: Film screenings of Move - Akram Khan

The episode of dance documentary series MOVE focuses on the work of Akram Khan. The film is an intimate portrait of Khan and his personal and artistic journey to the top of contemporary dance. Khan's new work Jungle Book reimagined will be shown at the Helsinki Festival at Dance House Helsinki 22–24 August.

Jamkids: music work shop

Jamkids music workshop is an immersive and interactive music session designed for children of all ages. In the workshop, children can sing, move, and play all sorts of instruments with Jamkids’ instructors. You can join the music workshop for as long as you like. Welcome to make music with the whole family!

PerformanceSirkus's non-stop circus workshops can be found in front of the C lobby door, between 17.30-18 and 18.15-19. Senior circus enthusiasts encourage Night of the Arts visitors to try out easy circus equipment!

STAIRCASE A

Cable Factory's Konttori: Café and bar & stage programme

Come to Cable Factory’s Konttori for refreshment! Grab a coffee or a glass of refreshing wine at the counter. You’ll also find delicious treats and snacks here. The Micro gallery is hosting Milla Tarpio’s exhibition.

On Konttori's stage:

  • at 19-19.50 Finnish Animation guild presents: Animaatiokopla 20th anniversary screening.

Dance Theatre Hurjaruuth: open rehearsal of Vuodenajat performance and fun hats
Staircase A, 2nd floor / at 17-21
On the Hurjaruuth stage, there will be an open rehearsal of Vuodenajat – puutarhatonttujen matkakuvia, a performance that combines dance and circus. The premiere of the show is on 21.9.

In the foyer, you can take pictures of yourself wearing various fun hats and accessories! Additionally, you can admire posters from past performances, such as the Winter Circus, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, displayed along the red corridor that connects the stage and the foyer. A small café will also be open in the foyer.

Helsinki Artists’ Association Art School and Course Center: Non-stop cardboard art workshop
Staircase A, 3rd floor / at 17-20
Come create your own three-dimensional cardboard figure, either from a pre-made template or one of your own design. This year, the art school celebrates its 35th anniversary and the course center its 50th! In the school's Atlantis Gallery, you can explore the activities of the school and view photographs from over the years. Join in on the creation of a Street Art-style painting/drawing wall as well!

Helsinki Camera Club: Studio photography, exhibitions, open doors

  • Persona club studio photography at 17–20.30 (2nd floor): Come and capture a memorable photo in the studio! Get a beautiful keepsake from the day for free, alone or with a friend or family member!

  • Helsinki Camera Club presents 2024 - photo exhibition at 17-21 (2nd floor): Admire the diverse skills and creativity of club members through works from various genres and techniques at Kameraseura Galleria West.

  • Flowers, tricks and buzzing creatures - photo exhibition at 17-21 (4th floor): Photographer Jussi Mankki will be present in the Kamera Gallery throughout the evening.

  • Meet photography enthusiasts and explore activities at 17-21 (2nd and 4th floors): Club members will be available to share their passion for photography, introduce club activities, and present membership benefits. Come and learn why Helsinki Camera Club is the perfect place for photography enthusiasts!

  • Archive cleanup at 17-21 (4th floor): Free old issues of Kamera magazine! Come pick up your copy and get inspired by the world of photography.

Lagos Studio Archives: Open Studio

Lagos Studio Archives would like to invite you to their studio where they will be presenting images from their archive and talking about the motivations behind their ongoing project.

Lagos Studio Archives is an artistic research and cultural preservation project by Helsinki based artists Karl Ohiri and Riikka Kassinen. The archive consists of thousands of film negatives documenting studio portraiture and vernacular photography made in Lagos, Nigeria, from the 1970s to post millenium. The working group's mission is to collect, preserve and present the rich visual history from Africa's most populous city giving visibility to practices and at risk archives that have come under threat in recent decades due to a shift from analogue to digital photography and contested city space.

Join for an evening of discussions, photography, Nigerian music and light refreshments! The project is funded by Kone Foundation.

Etelän-SYLI ry: Photo exhibition about eating disorder
Staircase B, 4th floor / at 17-20

The works in the exhibition are created to reflect the dual nature of the mental landscape of an eating disorder. The series tells a personal story of how it may have originated from a sense of security, the kind of balancing act it entails, and how it can easily escalate into a struggle or, conversely, a longing. In this wonderful artist’s studio you can peep into the colourful life of a living artist and the history of the Cable Factory. You are warmly welcome!

Cable Factory Round

How well do you know the Cable Factory? The Cable Factory Round is a guided tour lasting about 50 minutes where you get to see the varied spaces at the Cable Factory, its rich history and colourful hall of fame, from an Olympic medallist to factory managers and artists. Tours are accessible. Maximum of 20 persons on one tour.

MUU Helsinki Contemporary art centre: Sebastian Reis - Pendulum
C lobby, 1st floor / at 17-21
Reis’s exhibition explores various natural wonders, their cultural dimensions, and the Earth as a unifying factor. The works in the exhibition are photographs that have been cut, painted, and playfully mounted on freestanding three-dimensional structures within the space.

The restaurant is open throughout the evening! Food and drinks are available to satisfy both savory and sweet cravings.

Helsingin taideyhdistys: Kohtaamisia art exhibition
Puristamo, C lobby, 1st floor / at 11-21
The exhibition features works by a total of 95 artists. Come meet the artists and enjoy the art! At 12, Mira Mink (poetry readings) and Nisse Rikama (poetic songs). At 18, Ephraim Great poetry.

STAIRCASE C

Käytävägalleria: Encaustic art

The exhibition features demonstrations at 18-20, and the most eager visitors can try painting with a small iron themselves. Also, check out another painting station at Ateljee Aapeli in the basement of staircase E!

Septaria Ceramic Center / Kerasil shop: the shop is open and course registration discount

In honor of the Night of the Arts, the shop will be open later, and you can get a 10 % discount on course registrations when you come to the store in person to sign up!

Awase: Aikido and Taido pop up training sessions

Welcome to Awase’s studio to practice Aikido and Taido! The pop-up training sessions offer an easy and accessible way to get started. Children and youth can try Aikido at 17-18. All ages are welcome to experience both Aikido and Taido at 18-21. Please note: pop-up trainings are suitable for those over 7 years old. The sessions are organized by Awase Aikido and University Taido. Don't miss the Aikido sword (bokken) performances in Turbiinisali at 19 and 20!

Welcome to meet the painter, chat about art and life, or simply browse the artworks, where you might find some affordable treasures. There will also be a lottery of an artwork among the visitors.

Ateljee Aapeli: Sari-Aino Tolonen
Staircase E, basement / at 18-20
Artist Sari-Aino Tolonen will demonstrate an old beeswax painting technique, which you can try out. Also, check out another painting station at Käytävälleria on staircase C, 2nd floor!

Free Art School: Art exhibition HÄMÄRÄ and music

Free Art School's students are organizing an art exhibition on the theme of "Twilight". Miko Sipilä will perform ambient electronic music using a self-built light-controlled synthesizer at 18 and 19.

The Finnish Museum of Photography: Exhibitions and non stop darkroom workshop and an an artist meeting
1st floor / at 17-21
The exhibitions on display: Niina Vatanen: Universus, Jonne Sippola: Tarja, Berndt and Me, and the museum's permanent exhibition Etsin.

In the museum’s ground floor, there will be a non-stop darkroom workshop at 17–20. New participants can join whenever space becomes available. The workshops include guidance and all necessary materials and tools. They are suitable for all ages, with a recommendation for those over 5 years old. Children under 10 are welcome to participate with an adult.

On the first floor, there will be an artist meeting for Niina Vatanen's exhibition at 18.

Theatre Museum: Open doors and Kaj Chydenius concert and sing-along
2nd floor / at 17-21 - concert and sing-along at 18 (duration 1 h)
Kaj Chydenius's melodies will set the rhythm for the Theatre Museum’s Night of the Arts! The museum will have open doors, and the highlight of the evening will be a Chydenius concert and sing-along.

In the "Älä elämää pelkää" (Don't Fear Life) sing-along, you’ll hear Kaj Chydenius's most beloved compositions performed by actress duo Ritva Sorvali and accompanied by Helena Ryti. The audience will also have the opportunity to join in on communal singing. The sing-along starts in the Maneesi hall at 18. No advance registration or reservations are required. Seating is available for 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis.

The exhibitions Kolmas soitto and Arkadia Theatre with its experimental stations and stages, as well as the changing exhibitions Synnyt / Origins and "Fokuksessa – Aki Loponen’s theathre photography. (Note: Some of the experimental stations will be closed during the Chydenius sing-along at 18–19).

Hotel and Restaurant Museum: Non-stop workshop on food traditions and exhibitions
3rd floor / at 17-21
What food has been passed down to you? What food rituals have you learned? Dive into food traditions during the evening. Join the non-stop workshop where a collective food map is created from food memories. Participants will have the chance to share their personal experiences with food and cooking.

You can also explore the museum's exhibitions: Makuasioita takes you to places where food and drink culture is developed, and Tehtaan tekemää ruokaa introduces domestic food products.
