Design Market

Design Market is the largest design outlet event in the Nordic countries which traditionally kicks off the Helsinki Design Week festival. A carefully curated group of vendors will showcase high-quality furniture, interior design items, clothing and accessories by designers and makers. After a couple of years’ break, this classic HDW event returns to the Cable Factory. The idea is to empty the warehouses at the Cable Factory to make space for new products. Selected design companies have applicable items to sell, including last-season products, prototypes and items of substandard quality, for example. Kids will have their hands full in the thrilling workshops of the Arkki School of Architecture for Children, with an opportunity to build rooms and houses in two scales. What kind of cities can be built of legos and giant pieces of foam rubber? Top chef Ina Niiniketo will serve lunches in the cafeteria. This year’s novelty is Designers’ Market that takes us back to the very roots of the event: designers decluttering their studios and storage rooms of prototypes and exhibition items. The Designers’ Market collection consists of unique glassware, tableware, lighting fixtures, furniture and more. Selected designers include Mikko Laakkonen, Susan Elo, Julie Tolvanen, Maija Puoskari, Tero Kuitunen and Hanna Anonen. These items you cannot find in any store – only at the Cable Factory! Additionally, Fashion Community Helsinki, a collective of young Finnish fashion promises, achieved great popularity last year with their Fashion Walks event. Fashion Walks will be organized at the Cable Factory during Design Market on both Saturday and Sunday!
