How to communicate your ideas to the audience, be they funding agencies, exhibition / art competition juries, press officers or members of the public who will visit your exhibition?

This two-part workshop — produced by MUU and FLASH, the Finnish Light Art Society —consists of discussions and practical exercises that will motivate the artist to consider the point of view of the audience(s) that will be reading the text.

1st part at 11:00 - 13:30
The discussion, forming the first part of the workshop, will clarify the needs of different audiences and explore the qualities that make a good text for group. The panel will be led by Mia Kivinen (curator, FLASH) and include John Gayer (artist, critic, MUU) and Melanie Orenius (Curator of Education, Amos Rex). Moreover, all those present may contribute to the discussion. Though English will be the main language of this session, Finnish can also be used.

-lunch break-

2nd part at 14:30 - 17:00
The workshop’s second part will be comprised of short and simple writing exercises. It will be led by Laura Lehtinen, language arts tutor at The University of Arts. The goals of this session are to relax the writing muscles, to pick up ideas to make starting easier and learning how to get the point through as clearly and simply as possible. This session’s language can be Finnish or English — whatever best serves the participants.

Registration deadline 15.5.2024.
Participation is limited to 10 people.
To participate, you must be a media artist; no other qualifications are needed.
